Procedure for obtaining of Identification cards

Procedure for obtaining and returning of Diplomatic, Consular, Administrative and Identification Cards for International Organization Employee/Expert and Honorary Consuls


Diplomatic, Consular, Administrative Identification Cards and Identification Cards for International Organization Employee/Expert and Honorary Consuls for the staff members of the Embassies, Consular Posts and International Organizations with diplomatic status accredited to the Republic of Armenia, are issued by the “State Protocol Service” Agency of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA).

To obtain the Identification Card (also in case of extending or Card loss), the Diplomatic Representation should apply to the MFA by Note Verbale submitting the following documents:

  1. Two copies of the Application for obtaining of Identification Card (filled out with block letters),
  2. Two photos (3x4),
  3. Two copies of the main pages of the passport.

The Identification Card will be issued within 7 working days. The Identification Card is issued the minimum for one month and maximum for three years according to the Note Verbale of the Representation, duration of the posting and expiry date of the passport of the holder.

The date of expiration of the Identification Card of the family members of the employee should not exceed the expiry date of the employee’s Identification Card.
In case of the termination of the function of the holder, the Identification Card must be returned by Note Verbale to the MFA submitting the Identification Card return notice.

The Private Servants


According to the Articles 15 and 16 of the Law “On Aliens” of the Republic of Armenia, the private servants who are not the citizens of the Republic of Armenia receive the Temporary Residency Status in the Republic of Armenia.

According to the Government Decree of the Republic of Armenia (2008, N134-N), to apply for the Temporary Residency Status in the Republic of Armenia for the private servants, the Diplomatic Representation should apply to the Consular Department of MFA by Note Verbale submitting the following documents:

  1. An application on a prescribed form,
  2. Three colour photos (35x45mm)
  3. Passport, copy of the passport and notarized translation of the passport into Armenian,
  4. The documents justifying the receiving (extending) the residency status in the Republic of Armenia,
  5. Medical certificate,
  6. Receipt on payment of the prescribed state fee.

In the presence of statutory grounds Passport and Visa Department of the Police
RA is issued the permission for temporary residency status for the private servants of the representation.
