1. Where and how to apply for the acquisition or termination of the citizenship of the Republic of Armenia?

Starting from 1 January 2026, applications for the acquisition or termination of the citizenship of the Republic of Armenia shall be submitted, verified, processed, as well as appointments for the submission of original documents shall be made exclusively through the mcs-citizenship.am electronic system.

State Fee Amounts and Payment Procedure for Acquisition and Termination of Citizenship of the Republic of Armenia

For the acquisition of the citizenship of the Republic of Armenia — 50,000 AMD

For termination of the citizenship of the Republic of Armenia — 150,000 AMD

The non-refundable state fee shall be paid through the electronic citizenship case management system mcs-citizenship.am to the treasury account 900005160529 of the Migration and Citizenship Service of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Armenia.

Helpful tips

  • The regulations of procedures for obtaining or renouncing the citizenship of the Republic of Armenia are defined by the “Law of the Republic of Armenia on the Citizenship of the Republic of Armenia” and N 97-N Decision of the Government of the Republic of Armenia from January 22, 2026.
  • Obtaining citizenship of another country or unilaterally renouncing the citizenship of the Republic of Armenia do not automatically lead to losing the citizenship of the Republic of Armenia.
  • The citizenship of the Republic of Armenia can be granted or renounced only through the Decree of the President of the Republic of Armenia.

Important Notes

  • Documents issued by the competent authorities of foreign countries (civil registration certificates, references, notarial certificates, translations, etc.) should be verified with an apostille or undergo consular legalization.
  • Documents in a foreign language should be translated into Armenian after being verified with an apostille or undergoing consular legalization.
  • If the translation is done by a certified translator or a sworn translator, then the translation itself should be verified with an apostille or undergo consular legalization as well.
