Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan who is in Vienna to participate in the International Ministerial Conference on Nuclear Security met with Li Yong, the Director General of the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO).

During the meeting Director General Li Yong commended Amenia’s achievements and impressive results in economic development, poverty reduction, nationalization and realization of sustainable development goals, highlighting the readiness of UNIDO to support Armenia`s initiatives. Minister Mnatsakanyan noted that Armenia attaches particular importance to the role of the organization in terms of implementation of the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Commending the long-term cooperation established between Armenia and the UN Industrial Development Organization and successful implementation of joint programmes, Minister Mnatsakanyan reiterated Armenia’s interest in further strengthening and deepening cooperation with the Organization.

Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude to UNIDO for the continuous support provided to Armenia in the spheres of investment and export promotion, SME Development, hazardous waste management and agro-processing.

Touching upon the broad agenda of reforms initiated by the Government of Armenia, Foreign Minister briefed Director General Yong on the steps to be taken to fight corruption and create equal economic opportunities.

Among the priorities of the Government's development agenda Minister Mnatsakanyan highlighted creation of favourable conditions for the economic revolution based on high-tech and innovation. Both sides stressed the importance of full use of Innovation and high-tech potential and opportunities in certain industrial spheres.
