Foreign Minister of Armenia Met the Foreign Minister of Romania

On September 25, at the UN Headquarters in New York, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, the Foreign Minister of Armenia held a meeting with Ramona Mănescu, the newly appointed Foreign Minister of Romania. 

Congratulating Ramona Mănescu on her appointment to that important post, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan emphasized that Armenia appreciates centuries-long friendly relations with Romania. The two sides expressed their readiness to continue steps towards strengthening and expanding mutually beneficial cooperation through high-level visits and political consultations between the Foreign Ministries and streamlining of inter-parliamentary contacts.

Touching upon multilateral cooperation, the interlocutors highlighted the areas of information technology, creative education, innovation, smart development, culture, science, and agriculture. In this regard, the Ministers highlighted the establishment of direct flights between Yerevan and Bucharest as an important step towards strengthening and intensifying tourist, commercial, economic, cultural and people-to-people contacts.

Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Ramona Mănescu highly appreciated the role the Armenian community plays in the socio-political life of Romania, noting that it serves as an important bridge between the two states. Armenian Foreign Minister expressed his gratitude to the Foreign Minister of Romania for the warm attitude the Armenian community enjoys.

In the context of the Armenia-EU partnership, Minister Mnatsakanyan touched upon the CEPA, the legal basis of cooperation with the EU and EU Member States. The Foreign Ministers exchanged views on the Eastern Partnership and the development prospects of the initiative.  

Foreign Minister of Armenia presented to his counterpart the latest developments of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and Armenia’s principal position and approaches to the Peace Process.
