Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan’s meeting with Pekka Haavisto, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Finland

On September 24, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia, who is on a working visit in New York, met Pekka Haavisto, Foreign Minister of Finland within the margins of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly․

Minister Mnatsakanyan congratulated his Finnish counterpart on assuming the post and wished him success in that responsibility. The Foreign Ministers expressed their mutual readiness to take practical steps towards full utilization of the potential of cooperation. The importance of promoting ties between representatives of targeted directions: information technology, creative education, and innovation were highlighted.

The sides exchanged views on the priorities of the Finnish Presidency at the Council of the European Union, as well as the expansion and strengthening of cooperation within the framework of the Eastern Partnership. In this context, Minister Mnatsakanyan emphasized the importance of launching a dialogue on visa liberalization with the EU, especially in the context of promoting people-to-people contacts.

Foreign Minister of Armenia also briefed his Finnish counterpart on the principled position and approaches of Armenia to the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict. The interlocutors highlighted the commitment of the sides to the exclusively peaceful settlement of the conflict.
