Remarks of Armenia’s Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan on the occasion of the reception dedicated to 40th anniversary of the Islamic revolution of Iran

11 February, 2019

Your excellency,

Dear Mr. Ambassador,

I kindly welcome my colleagues, members of the government, parliament, representatives of  diplomatic corps and all our colleagues who are interested and directly involved in bilateral relations between Armenia and Iran. This big turnout symbolizes Armenia’s attitude towards the Islamic Republic of Iran, a great and friendly neighbor of Armenia.

I would like to express my warmest congratulations to the friendly people of Iran on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Islamic Revolution. We are well aware of the great importance and symbolism this event presents for the friendly people of Iran. And this reception is a part of the celebrations that are taking place in Iran and outside of its borders.

Armenia and Iran are descendants of the ancient and rich civilizations, countries tied together with solid bonds of millennial neighbors. Those are, first and foremost, the rich joint history, the deep respect towards the two peoples and care for each other’s culture, as well as the friendly cooperation developed upon this firm foundation.

Even though today’s interstate relations are but a mere thrice in the ancient chronology of the cooperation of our two nations, those relations represent a crucial phase of the establishment and consolidation for the newly independent Armenia, a process, in which Iran has been our irreplaceable companion.

The friendship of our two nations, especially today, is a model illustration of intercultural dialogue and coexistence between different religions and civilizations, as well as a symbol for the establishment of peace and stability in different regions.

Armenia values the high-level political dialogue, close trade partnership, cultural and educational ties, people-to-people contacts, and collaboration in many other fields that it has developed with Iran.

I am fully confident that, through joint efforts, the traditional, warm and friendly relations between Armenia and Iran will continue to strengthen and develop, registering new achievements of the mutually beneficial cooperation.

Mr. Ambassador,

I would also like to thank you personally for your input in the consolidation of the advantages between our two nations and countries. This  video we just saw is a short story of the great job, that you, on your part, we and our partners here, our Ambassador in Iran are carrying out to enrich what has been built throughout the centuries. It’s our responsibility to enrich and deepen those bilateral relations.

You have already mentioned the rich agenda shared by our two countries, and I reiterate that agenda, the goals we have set that we intend to accomplish together.

I once again congratulate the people of Iran, the leadership of the Islamic Republic of Iran, the government, the representatives of the embassy, and you, Mr. Ambassador,  on the occasion of this most important anniversary, wishing eternal peace, well-being and new achievements.

Thank you.
