Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Armenia Participated in the Ministerial Meeting of the Women, Peace and Security Focal Points Network in New York
24 September, 2026On September 23, in New York, within the framework of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Armenia Robert Abisoghomonyan attended and delivered remarks at the ministerial side event of the Women, Peace and Security (WPS) Focal Points Network.
Marking the 10th anniversary of the network's establishment, the Deputy Minister emphasized the practical implementation of the Women, Peace and Security agenda by translating international commitments into national policies and institutional mechanisms, and by ensuring full participation of women in peace and security decision-making processes.
Deputy Minister Robert Abisoghomonyan presented Armenia’s third Action Plan (2025–2027) for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security, titled "Investing in Global Peace." He noted that its implementation is interconnected with human rights protection, conflict prevention, security and defense sector reforms, and the promotion of equal rights and opportunities for women and men.
The importance of a broader understanding of security was highlighted. Key touchpoints included promoting women's participation in economic and cybersecurity sectors, improving access to healthcare and social services, and ongoing work to ensure balanced representation of women and men in the diplomatic service, armed forces, and police.
The Deputy Minister underscored the strengthening of community resilience and the integration and inclusion of displaced women, emphasizing their participation in addressing immediate needs as well as building resilient communities and sustainable peace.
He concluded that the prevention, participation, protection, relief and recovery pillars of the Women, Peace and Security agenda must be reflectively interconnected in policy and decision-making processes, including within the security and defense sectors.
