WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control is the first international legal instrument in the field of public health. It aims to protect present and future generations from diseases and deaths caused by tobacco consumption and exposure to tobacco products. The Conference of the Parties is the Convention’s highest decision-making body. It meets every two years to review progress, evaluate implementation, and adopt new measures to prevent and control the tobacco epidemic. The civil society, in particular representatives of non-governmental organizations, indigenous peoples, academic community, women’s organizations, youth and private sector actively participate in the Conferences of the Parties.
