Meeting of the Foreign Minister of Armenia with the Head of Government of Buenos Aires

On March 26, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan, who is in Argentina on an official visit, met with the Head of Government of Buenos Aires, Jorge Macri. The Minister of Education of the city, Mercedes Miguel, also attended the meeting.

The interlocutors commended the high-level political dialogue between Armenia and Argentina. Noting that Yerevan and Buenos Aires have been sister cities since 2000, Minister Mirzoyan added that in the light of deepening Armenian-Argentine relations, new prospects for cooperation between the two cities are also opening up.

In the context of sectoral cooperation, the interlocutors paid close attention to the mutual support and exchange of experience in application of innovative solutions in the field of education and information technology. Both parties stressed the importance of activities for opening the TUMO Center for Creative Technologies in Argentina. Minister Mirzoyan also presented the steps taken to bring the project of the academic city to life in Armenia. 

Ararat Mirzoyan and Jorge Macri also emphasized the need to use the existing opportunities to the maximum extent in the direction of strengthening economic and business ties and, for this purpose, the implementation of initiatives contributing to the establishment and expansion of ties between Armenian and Argentinian companies.

Touching upon the role of the Armenian community in Argentina, the interlocutors also emphasized the importance of cultural ties, taking into account that Buenos Aires has become a hub of different cultures, including about 100,000 Armenians living there. Minister Mirzoyan also expressed his gratitude for the title of "Honorary Guest of Buenos Aires" awarded to him at the event held in the Parliament of Buenos Aires the day before: “It puts on me a unique obligation to further contribute to the development of Yerevan-Buenos Aires relations”.

At the meeting, the security situation around Armenia, the consequences of the ethnic cleansing carried out by Azerbaijan in Nagorno-Karabakh, the ongoing challenges, as well as the efforts of Armenia aimed at establishing stability in the South Caucasus were touched upon.
