Meeting of the Foreign Minister of Armenia and the High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy

On February 13, in Brussels, ahead of the session of the Armenia-EU Partnership Council, the tête-à-tête meeting between Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan and Josep Borrell, Vice President of the European Commission, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy took place.

Views were exchanged on issues of the Armenia-EU partnership agenda. The implementation process of the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement, democratic developments in Armenia, as well as recently implemented joint steps and existing perspectives to develop the partnership in new directions were touched upon.

Security issues in the South Caucasus were also discussed.

The interlocutors touched upon the incident of another provocation and the use of force by the armed forces of Azerbaijan in the area of Nerkin Hand, Syunik region, on the morning of the same day. The Foreign Minister of Armenia emphasized that this incident once again shows that Azerbaijan is looking for pretexts for border escalations and is continuously trying to disrupt the efforts of the actors interested in the stability and security of the South Caucasus to resume negotiations.

The prevention of further steps aimed at destabilizing the situation in the South Caucasus was underscored.
