27 February, 2023

On February 27, within the framework of the high-level session of the UN Human Rights Council, Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with UN High Commissioner for Refugees Filippo Grandi.

The interlocutors discussed issues on the further development of cooperation between Armenia and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees.

Ararat Mirzoyan and Filippo Grandi touched upon humanitarian problems resulting from the 44-day war of 2020 and Azerbaijan's aggression against the sovereign territory of Armenia, emphasizing the urgency of addressing them. In this context, issues of supporting displaced persons during the mentioned events were discussed.

During the meeting, the need to settle the complex humanitarian situation in Nagorno-Karabakh resulting from the blockade of the Lachin corridor was also stressed. Minister Mirzoyan highlighted the importance of sending an international fact-finding mission to the Lachin corridor and Nagorno-Karabakh, as well as the unimpeded humanitarian access of relevant UN bodies, including the Office of the High Commissioner for Refugees, to Nagorno-Karabakh.
