The meeting of the Foreign Minister of Armenia with the President of the UN Human Rights Council

On December 12, Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan had a meeting with Federico Villegas, the President of the UN Human Rights Council, Permanent Representative of Argentina to the UN Office at Geneva.

Ararat Mirzoyan highlighted the importance of participation of the President of the United Nations Human Rights Council (UNHRC) in the Fourth Global Forum Against the Crime of Genocide highly appreciating his contribution to the protection of human rights.

Foreign Minister of Armenia stressed that Armenia, as a state representing a nation which survived the scourge of genocide, is the most actively involved in advancing the prevention agenda of genocide and other crimes against humanity.

The interlocutors touched upon the activities carried out by Armenia in the UNHRC in the last three years, and commended the close cooperation between Armenia and Argentina, including in the sphere of human rights.

Ararat Mirzoyan briefed his interlocutor on the situation resulting from Azerbaijan's actions aimed at disrupting the normal functioning of the Lachin Corridor and the following risks. Minister Mirzoyan also emphasized that Azerbaijan's maximalist approaches to the use of force or the threat of use of force are major factors undermining stability and security in the region.
