The meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Georgia

On April 30, Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan held a meeting with Deputy Prime Minister, Foreign Minister of Georgia Ilia Darchiashvili, who is on a working visit in Yerevan. Minister Mirzoyan congratulated his counterpart on assuming the responsible position and wished every success in his important mission.

Ararat Mirzoyan and Ilia Darchiashvili congratulated each other on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Georgia.

The interlocutors commended the relations based on millennial friendship and mutual trust between Armenia and Georgia, as well as the effective and coles cooperation in interstate level and within international organizations. Both sides highlighted the current cooperation between the Foreign Ministries and stressed the importance of holding regular sectoral consultations.

The sides referred to the joint efforts for the realization of the existing potential in the trade and economic sphere, for the sustainable development of the region. In this context, the importance of cooperation between Armenia and Georgia in creating a "Persian Gulf - Black Sea International Transport-Transit Corridor" was particularly emphasized.

During the meeting issues of regional security and stability were also discussed. Minister Mirzoyan presented the situation around the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, as well as Armenia's position on the processes aimed at establishing regional peace and stability, and the negotiations on a comprehensive peace agreement with Azerbaijan. He also stressed the importance of the mediation efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship in advancing the peace process aimed at the comprehensive settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

Reference was also made to humanitarian issues that need urgent solution, in particular, the repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war and civilians held in Azerbaijan, the desecration and destruction of Armenian cultural and religious heritage by Azerbaijan in the territories fallen under the Azerbaijani control after the 44-day war. In this context, Minister Mirzoyan emphasized the unimpeded access to relevant international structures and their unimpeded involvement on the ground.

The meeting was followed by the statements for the press of the Ministers of Foreign Affairs.

In the morning of the same day, accompanied by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Georgia Ilia Darchiashvili visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial and pay tribute to the memory of the Genocide victims.
