Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan met with Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov

On April 8, Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan, who is in Moscow on a working visit, held a meeting with Foreign Minister of Russia Sergey Lavrov. Ahead to the meeting of the two delegations, the Ministers had a private conversation.

The main subject of discussion were the further strengthening of allied relations and close cooperation between Armenia and Russia within bilateral and multilateral framework, as well as current issues related to ensuring stability and security in the region.

In his speech, Minister Mirzoyan noted that on the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, as well as the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Friendship, Cooperation and Mutual Assistance, it should be stated that the Armenian-Russian allied relations are distinguished with high-level effective dialogue, close cooperation within the framework of international organizations, including the CSTO, EAEU, CIS.

The Foreign Minister of Armenia emphasized the cooperation in the military-political and military-technical spheres, the consistent improvement of the wide legal field, the effective partnership in the trade, economic, interregional and humanitarian spheres. In this context, the activities of the relevant intergovernmental commissions were highlighted.

Among the main topics of the meeting were the situation on the Armenia-Azerbaijan bordering area, and in Nagorno-Karabakh resulting from the invasion of Azerbaijani armed forces into the Parukh village in the area of ​​responsibility of the Russian peacekeeping contingent. In this context, the need for steps towards reducing the current tension with the withdrawal of the Azerbaijani armed forces to the starting positions as of March 23 was stressed. The continuation of efforts aimed at overcoming humanitarian problems in Artsakh and preventing them was also stressed.

Ararat Mirzoyan expressed conviction that the effective activity of the Russian peacekeeping forces in Nagorno-Karabakh serves for the benefit of strengthening the ceasefire regime in Nagorno-Karabakh and preventing provocations, restoring normal life, ensuring stability and security in the region.

The Foreign Minister of Armenia stressed the importance of Russia's mediation efforts aimed at the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict exclusively by peaceful means, including as a co-chair country of the OSCE Minsk Group.

The sides also touched upon the normalization process of Armenia-Turkey relations. 

The meeting was followed by the signing ceremony of the 2022-2023 consultation program between the Foreign Ministries of Armenia and Russia.
