Meeting of Foreign Minister of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan with Foreign Minister of Iran Hossein Amir-Abdollahian

On October 4, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Ararat Mirzoyan, who is in Tehran with a working visit, held a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran Hossein Amir Abdollahian.

During the meeting the sides discussed a wide range on issues on the bilateral and multilateral formats of cooperation, as well as regional developments.

The Ministers commended the high level of centuries-old Armenian and Iranian friendly relations, expressing mutual readiness to undertake efforts aimed at expanding and deepening the cooperation based on mutual trust.

The interlocutors touched upon the perspective of promotion of economic ties, emphasizing the importance of undertaking targeted steps aimed at increasing trade volume, including through the implementation of the specific programs agreed between the sides. The activation of cooperation in the spheres of tourism and culture was also discussed. In this context, the Ministers emphasized the works of the Joint Intergovernmental Commision of the Republic of Armenia and the Islamic Republic of Iran.

The signing and effective implementation of the multilateral agreement on the establishment of the “Persian Gulf-Black Sea” transport corridor was emphasized.

The Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Iran discussed the issues on the cooperation between the Eurasian Union and Iran.

During the meeting the sides have also touched upon the cooperation in the sphere of energy and transport infrastructure. Ararat Mirzoyan briefed on the process and results of the construction of the alternative road to the Goris-Kapan, as well as the construction of the North-South highway. The interlocutors exchanged views on the perspectives of the project of gas for energy.

Ararat Mirzoyan and Hossein Amir Abdollahian discussed the developments in the region, as well as the issues of regional security and stability.

The Foreign Minister of Armenia briefed his interlocutor on the situation and the humanitarian issues in the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict zone resulting from the Azerbaijani-Turkish aggression against Artsakh. Ararat Mirzoyan specifically stressed the need for the immediate and unconditional repatriation of Armenian prisoners of war and captured civilians held in Azerbaijan.

Touching upon the situation resulting from the infiltration of Azerbaijani armed forces into the sovereign territory of Armenia and its continuous provocative actions, Ararat Mirzoyan highly appreciated Iran's position on the territorial integrity of Armenia. The Foreign Ministers of the two countries stressed the inadmissibility of actions endangering regional stability and highlighted the importance of cooperation in the framework of addressing new regional challenges.

At the end of the meeting, Ararat Mirzoyan and Hossein Amir Abdollahian delivered a joint statement for the press.
