Acting Foreign Minister Armen Grigoryan met with Foreign Minister of Uruguay Francisco Bustillo

On August 16, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia Armen Grigoryan held a meeting with Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay Francisco Bustillo.

Welcoming the guest, Armen Grigoryan commended the high-level political dialogue with Uruguay, expressing willingness to undertake steps towards further strengthening friendly relations, including through high-level mutual visits.

The sides touched upon the bilateral and multilateral agenda of cooperation between Armenia and Uruguay. As prospective directions for developmenting the cooperation were highlighted the banking, healthcare, infrastructure etc.  In this context, the sides stressed the need to establish resident diplomatic missions in Montevideo and Yerevan in order to create conditions for more effective cooperation.

The interlocutors also underlined the inter-parliamentary cooperation, emphasizing the important role of the friendship groups traditionally functioning in the parliaments of the two countries.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged views on the situation resulting from the aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh. Armen Grigoryan highly appreciated the statements adopted by the Uruguayan parliament, which condemned the Azerbaijani-Turkish aggression and war crimes committed by the armed terrorist fighters against the people of Artsakh.

The Acting Foreign Minister of Armenia and the Foreign Minister of Uruguay highlighted the importance of establishing effective multilateral cooperation based on the principles of common values. In this regard, it was stressed the importance of the prospects of cooperation between the Eurasian Economic Union and MERCOSUR, which will provide good opportunities to activate economic ties between the two countries.

The sides specifically underscored the role of the Uruguayan-Armenian community in strengthening the friendly relations between two nations.

For increasing the number of joint programs and developmenting the cooperation, the further expansion of the legal field was emphasized, towards which targeted works will be implemented.

The meeting of Armen Grigoryan and Francisco Bustilo was followed by a joint press statement.

In the morning of the same day, Francisco Bustilo accompanied by Armen Grigoryan visited to the Memorial of Armenian Genocide and paid tribute to the memory of the victims of the Genocide.
