Deputy Foreign Minister Armen Ghevondyan participated in the Session of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers

On December 10, the session of the CIS Council of Foreign Ministers was held with the participation of Armen Ghevondyan, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia.

A number of issues on the agenda of the CIS member states’  international cooperation were discussed during the online session. The agenda of the meeting included about 15 documents aimed at deepening the cooperation between the CIS member states in various areas, including the 2021 Program of multi-level consultations between the CIS Foreign Ministries on the activities of the CIS Executive Committee, as well as joint actions of the CIS member states towards addressing the social-economic consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic.

A part of the draft documents signed during the session will be included in the agenda of the forthcoming session of the Council of Heads of State of the CIS, in particular, the joint statement of the CIS leaders on the occasion of the 75th anniversary of the UN, the joint statement on cooperation between the CIS leaders in the sphere of international information security, the concept on military cooperation of the CIS member states until 2025, the concept of further development of the CIS.

In his remarks, the Deputy Foreign Minister presented Armenia’s position on the agenda issues. Armen Ghevondyan also touched upon the aggression unleashed by Azerbaijan against Artsakh with the direct support of Turkey and the involvement of foreign terrorist fighters. The participants of the CIS Foreign Ministers' session were briefed on the pressing issues such as the exchange of prisoners of war and hostages, as well as the bodies of those killed; the urgency of clearifying the data on missing persons, and the need to preserve Armenian historical and cultural values.
