Phone conversation of the Foreign Minister of Ara Aivazian with the Secretary General of the United Nations

On November 25, Foreign Minister of Armenia Ara Aivazian held a phone conversation with the UN Secretary General António Guterres.

The UN Secretary General Guterres congratulated Ara Aivazian on assuming the position of the Foreign Minister of Armenia and wished him success in his responsible mission.

Foreign Minister Ara Aivazian and the UN Secretary General António Guterres discussed the humanitarian situation in Artsakh resulting from the Turkish-Azerbaijani aggression, as well as its consequences for the region. The sides touched upon the steps being undertaken to address the humanitarian crisis. In this regard, Minister Aivazian particularly emphasized the importance of the involvement of international organizations and first of all the relevant UN bodies on the ground.

During the phone call, Foreign Minister of Armenia underlined the need for the steps aimed at providing conditions for the return of the displaced Armenians of Artsakh to their homeland, as well as protecting their rights. Minister Aivazian provided Secretary-General Guterres with comprehensive information on the torture and other acts of violence against the prisoners of war and civilians under the Azerbaijani control.

Both sides especially emphasized the strict adherence to international humanitarian law and the norms of human rights, as well as the respectful attitude towards the historical-cultural heritage of Artsakh.
