Consultations of the CSTO member states on the agenda of the UN General Assembly 75th Session

On September 3, the representatives of Foreign Ministries of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) member states held consultations on the agenda of the 75th Session of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.

The member states presented national priorities for the Session. In the framework of global and regional security, the Armenian delegation highlighted the importance of exclusively peaceful settlement of conflicts within the agreed formats, as well as the need to strengthen the mechanisms aimed at prevention of genocides and crimes against humanity.

 The process of agreement of the draft statements to be delivered within UN platforms in CSTO format was discussed.

 The sides expressed concern over the factor of the cross-border threats as a result of the continuous political crisis in Afghanistan, the activities of terrorist groups and possible threats of destabilization in Central Asia.

 Participants exchanged views on the preservation of the security environment through joint efforts amid COVID-19 pandemic, possible contribution of the CSTO member states to the UN peacekeeping missions, coordination of efforts aimed at countering regional and global challenges.

 Representatives of the member states attached importance to the practice of holding such consultations aimed at further rapprochement of positions and enhancing mutual understanding.
