Events dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide

On April 24, Armenian diplomatic missions of abroad organized events dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in a number of countries.

A wreath-laying ceremony was performed in the Embassy of Armenia in the United States at the khachkar (cross stone) which symbolizes the commemoration of victims of the Armenian Genocide. Ambassador of Armenia to the United States Varuzhan Nersesyan, as well as many US congressmen, delivered messages on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

Ambassador of Armenia to Canada Anahit Harutyunyan addressed a message to the Armenians of Canada on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. Wreaths were laid at the "Eternal Armenia" monument to pay tribute to the victims of Genocide. 

A remembrance ceremony was held in Paris, the capital of France, at the Komitas Monument, attended by Minister of Justice of France Nicole Belloubet, Ambassador of Armenia to France Hasmik Tolmajian, Mayor of Paris Anne Hidalgo, Co-Chairs of the Coordinating Council of Armenian Organizations of France Ara Toranian and Murad Papazian. On the same day, memorial ceremonies were held in many cities in France.

In the center of Lyon, in Place Antonin Ponce, the president of the regional council of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes Laurent Wauquiez and representative of the Consulate General of the Armenia in Lyon with the participation of the co-chairs of the Coordinating Council of Armenian Organizations of France (CCAF) paid tribute at the monument dedicated to the Armenian Genocide and crimes against humanity. Mayor of Lyon Gerard Collomb and Prefect of Rhône (department) with the participation of the representatives of the Armenian community also paid tribute at the Lyon monument.

On the occasion of the the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, commmorative events were also organized with the participation of the representatives of State and municpal authorities of France and Armenian community in the cities of Valence, Bourg-lès-Valence, Grenoble, Saint-Étienne, Vienne, Chamonix, Villeurbanne, Vaulx-en-Velin of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. 

Ambassador of Armenia to Germany Ashot Smbatyan laid wreaths at the khachkar (cross stone) to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide which was followed by intercessory prayer of Vardapet E. Avetisyan, Pastor of the Armenian Apostolic church in Berlin. The representatives of the German Federal Foreign Office, the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia to the Federal Republic Germany and the Armenian communities of Berlin were also  present at the remembrance ceremony.

A remembrance ceremony dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was held in many cities of Spain (Madrid, Barcelona, Vlanecia, Alicante and etc), where Armenians are highly-populated.

On the eve of April 24, Ambassador of Armenia to Spain Vladimir Karmirshalyan addressed a message to the Armenians of Spain, touched upon the international recognition of the Armenian Genocide expressing hope that the Central authorities of Spain will also recognize the Armenian Genocide in the nearest future by joining the 5 autonomous communities and more than 30 cities  of Spain  that had already recognized the Armenian Genocide.

On April 24, at the initiative of Mayilyans, the church bell rang 105 times and the liturgy was offered to the memory of the holy martyrs of the Aremania Genocide by Bishop Mons. Jaume González-Agàpito in Santa Maria Reina church in Barcelona. At the initiative of the “Ararat” Union of Catalonia, the anthem of the Republic of Armenia and the songs of Charles Aznavour were performed in the church of  Santa Coloma de Gramenet city.

The Ambassador of Armenia to Belgium and Luxembourg, Tatul Margaryan, Head of mission of the Republic of Armenia to the EU, Gagik Hovhannisyan, Head of the Mission of the Republic of Armenia to NATO, Mayor of Ixelles Christos Doulkeridis, leaders of the Armenian community of Belgium laid wreaths in Henry Misho square of Belgium, near the Armenian Khachkar Memorial.

A wreath laying ceremony was performed with the participation of Ambassador of Armenia to Lithuania Tigran Mkrtchyan and representatives of the Armenian community near the Monument  symbolizing the commemoration of the victims of the Armenian Genocide. Commemorative events dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide were held in Saint Gregory the Illuminator Church of Primate of the Armenian  Diocese of the Baltic States.

The staff of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia to Bulgaria accompanied by the representatives of the Armenian community laid wreaths in Yerevan Park of Sofia near Khachkar (cross stone) Memorial. Events dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide were organized in many cities if Bulgaria, where Armenians are highly-populated. All the Armenian institutions and Church Councils of Bulgaria in online format remotely paid tribute to the victims of the Armenian Genocide of 1915.

In Sweden, the members of the Swedish parliament, historians, and politicians delivered video messages on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

Ambassador of Armenia to Czech Republic Ashot Hovakimyan, Barsegh Pilavchian, pastor of the Armenian Apostolic Church in Czech Republic and other members of the Armenian community laid flowers at the Armenian khachkar (cross stone) in Prague which was followed by the liturgy in Armenian Apostolic Church of Holy Spirit dedicated to holy martyrs. An online event dedicated to the victims of the Genocide was completed in a film consisting of 3 parts, in collaboration with the Embassy, Armenian Apsotolic church in Czech Republic, Armenian communties of Czech Republic, Serbia, Croatia, Slovenia and Montenegro.

On behalf of the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in the Republic of Serbia and the Armenian community of Serbia, Honorary Consul of Armenia in Serbia Predrag Tomic and head of the Armenian community of Serbia Samvel Ayvazyan laid wreath near the Armenian khachkar (cross stone) in Zemun.

In the Church of St. Yeghiche in London, the capital of Great Britain, a special mass (the liturgy) was offered in the memory of victims of the Armenian Genocide, which was followed by a wreath laying ceremony. Online commemorative events in the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide were organized with joint efforts of the Embassy and community structues.

On April 24, Ambassador of Armenia to Austria Armen Papikyan laid wreaths at the Franz Werfel Memorial (in the centre of Austria) and the Memorial dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide (in the courtyard of  Saint Hripsime Armenian Apostolic Church). The Ambassador addressed a message on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. 

Honorary Consul of Armenia in Slovakia Bagrat Hakobyan laid wreaths near the khachkar (cross stone) Memorial in Bratislava.

Church Council of the Netherlands has written a special prayer and sent to all the churches in the country to commemorate the 105 the anniversary of the Armenian Genocide and the holy martyrs during the liturgy. Ambassador of Armenia to the Netherlands Tigran Balayan laid  wreaths at the wall of the Armenian Apostolic Church of Holy Spirit at the Monument dedicated to Armenian Genocide. The Ambassador and Mayor of Almelo laid wreaths at the Memorial of victims of the Armenian Genocide. Ambassador Balayan delivered video messages to the Armenians in the Netherlands on the occasion of the anniversary of the Genocide. 

An online ceremony dedicated to the memory of the Armenian Genocide “Time Passes, Memory remains” was organized in collaboration with the Embassy of Armenia to Italy and community organizations. Ambassador of Armenia to the Holy See Garen Nazarian delivered a message within the framework of  the event “ Time Passes, Memory remains”. 

Ambassador of Armenia to Poland Samvel Mkrtchyan, laid wreaths in the Armneian Park of Warsaw, at the khachkar (cross stone) Memorial, paying tribute to the memory of consecrated innocent victims.

The Embassy of Armenia to Switzerland laid wreaths at the Armenian Genocide Memorial. 

In Bucharest, the capital of Romania, intercession service dedicated to the Holy Martyrs of the Armenian Genocide was held at the Church of the Holy Archangels Michael and Gabriel under the chairmanship of Grace Bishop T. Hakobyan. On behalf of all Armenians of Romania, Ambassador of Armenia to Romania Sergey Minasyan, Head of the Armenia–Romania friendship of the Parliament of Romania, President of the Union of Armenians of Romania Varujan Vosganian together with Bishop T. Hakobyan of the Armenian diocese of Romania laid wreaths and flowers in remembrance of the Armenian Genocide at the khachkar (cross stone), in the courtyard of the church.

On the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, Ambassador of Armenia to Greece Fadey Charchoghlyan delivered a message. Remembrance ceremonies and public speeches organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Armenia in the Hellenic Republic and Armenian community of Greece were broadcast via internet. 

Ambassador of Armenia to Moldova Jivan Movsisyan together with priest Nzhdeh Keshishyan of Metropolis of Chișinău and All  Moldova paid tribute to the memory of victims of the Armenian Genocide at the Memorial in the courtyard of the church.

Ambassador of Armenia to Russian Federation Vardan Toganyan and the Head of the Russian and Nor Nakhichevan diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Archbishop Ezras Nersisyan laid flowers at the Monument in the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide in the Armenian Cathedral of Moscow. In the morning of April 24, Holy mass was offered in Holy Transfiguration Cathedral, then intercession of the Holy Martyrs of the Armenian Genocide was held.

An online ceremony commemorating the consecrated martyrs was held at the initiative of the cultural centre adjunct to the Embassy. 

The staff of the Consulate General of Armenia to Saint  Petersburg  laid wreaths at the khachkar (cross stone) in the courtyard of the St. Catherine's Armenian Apostolic Church. Poghos Hieromonk (Priestmonk) Vardanyan, spiritual leader of the Armenian Apostolic church of the North-West region also took part in “Remembrance  and Humility” ceremony dedicated to the consecrated martyrs of the Armenian Genocide.

Consul General of the Republic of Armenia in Rostov-on-Don Vardan Asoyan took part in the liturgy offered in Church of the Resurrection, then laid flowers at the Memorial dedicated to the innocent victims of the Armenian Genocide.

In Nur-Sultan, the capital of Kazakhstan, an intercessory service dedicated to the memory of Holy Martyrs of the Armenian Genocide, was held in the Assumption Russian Orthodox Cathedral. Ambassador of the Republic of Armenia in the Republic of Kazakhstan Gagik Ghalatchian, staff of the Embassy and representatives of the Armenian community took part in the ceremony. The service was held by the head of the Nur-Sultan church, Supreme Archimandrite Sergey Karamyshev. Other Armenian  communities of Kazakhstan, as well as representatives of Almaty, Aktobe, Aktau, Atyrau, Ust'-Kamenogorsk taking into account the restrictions of the quarantine regime imposed in the country, in case of possibility paid tribute to the memory of consecrated victims of the Armneian Genocide.

In Minsk, the capital of Belarus, a commemorative event dedicated to the memory of the Holy martyrs of the Armenian Genocide was held at the Armenian khachkar (cross stone) in the courtyard of St. Alexander Nevsky Church. Ambassador of Armenia in the Republic of Belarus Armen Ghevondyan, members of diplomatic missions of Armenia, G. Eghiazaryan, head of the Armenian cultural enlightenment company “Armenia” in Minsk and representatives of the Armenian community took part in the ceremony.

Ambassador of Armenia to Ukraine Tigran Seiranyan, Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church of Ukraine Marcos Hovhannisyan, Deputy Chairman of the Armenian community of Ukraine Davit Mkrtchyan, head of the Armenian community in Kiev, Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Armenia in the city of Ternopil Norik Gevorgyan, Executive Director of the Armenian Community of Ukraine Hovakim Harutyunyan were also present at the memorial service dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide that was held at the khachkar (cross stone) Memorial in Kiev, the capital of Ukraine. On the same day, our compatriots held memorial ceremonies in numerous cities of Ukraine. Ambassador of Armenia delivered video message in the memory of victims of the Armenian Genocide. 

Ambassador of Armenia to Georgia Ruben Sadoyan and the staff of the Embassy took part in the ceremony dedicated to the memory of the consecrated martyrs of the Armenian Genocide held in St Ejmaitsin church in Tbilisi, the capital of Georgia. After the commemoration ceremony, Vicar of the Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Orthodox Holy church in Georgia, Archimandrite Kirakos Davtyan delivered speech and participants of the ceremony laid flowers in the courtyard of the church, at the khachkar dedicated to the innocent victims of the Armenian Genocide.

On April 24, Ambassador of Armenia to Syria participated in the liturgy dediacted to the consecrated victims of the Armenian Genocide, offered by the Primate of the Armenian Apostolic church of Damascus, Arcbishop Armash Nalbandyan at St Sarkis Armenian Church. The staff of the Consulate General and representatives of the humanitarian mission of the Republic of Armenia  in Aleppo paid tribute to the memory of the innocent victims of the Armenian Genocide.

The commemoration ceremony dedicated to the 105 th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was held In the Islamic Republic of Iran, during which Ambassador of Armenia to the Islamic Republic of Iran Artashes Tumanyan delivered remarks.

A number of ceremonies dedicated to the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide was held in Lebanon under the joint coordination of three Armenian political non-governmental organizations (NGO). Particularly, candlelight vigil started in the evening of April 23 in the square of Bourj Hammoud municipality in the capital of Lebanon. With the participation of 105 representatives of the community, Memorial mass was offered in the square of the Armenian Church Catholicosate of Antelias, which was followed by a wreath-laying ceremony.

An intercession service  dedicate to the memory of the Holy Martyrs of the Armenian Genocide was held in Saint Gregory the Illuminator Cathedral, in Egypt. Ambassador of Armenia  to Egypt Karen Grigoryan, chairman and vice - chairman of Cairo Diocese took part in the liturgy.   On behalf of the Armenins of Egypt, wreaths were laid to the memory of the Holy Martyrs of the Armenian Genocide at the khachkar (cross stone) in the courtyard of St. Gregory the Illuminator Church.

Ambassador of Armenia to Iraq Hrach Poladyan took part in a liturgy dedicated to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Gneocide offered in St. Karapet Church in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq. At the end of the liturgy, Ambassador Poladyan laid a wreath at the khachkar dedicated to the victims of the Armenian Genocide.

On the occasio of the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, the flags of the residence of the Ambassador and Embassy were lowered from April 24 until the morning April 25. The Armenian community was fully informed about the events dedicated to 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in Armenia.

Ambassador of Armenia to People’s Republic of China Sergey Manaseryan delivered a message on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

Amid the measures taken against the COVID-19 in Japan, the Embassy paid tribute to the memory of the victims of the Armenian Genocide laying flowers at the “Khachkar of Peace” in Tokyo.

A number of country leaders and high-ranking officials, political and public figures of many countries delivered remarks and interviews on the occasion of the 105th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.
