Discussion on the Fourth Report on the Implementation of the Provisions of the UN International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights

On July 26, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia hosted a discussion on the draft Fourth Report on the Implementation of the Provisions of the UN International Covenant on Economic, Social and Cultural Rights- along with the interagency working group members preparing the report and NGO representatives.

In her welcoming remarks, Karine Sujayan, Head of the Human Rights and Humanitarian Issues Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, touched upon the importance of ensuring the economic, social and cultural rights. She underlined that, unlike other rights, the implementation of social and economic rights requires more time and financial resources.

The participants touched upon the implementation of the recommendations of the UN Committee on Social, Economic and Cultural Rights and the reforms implemented in the judicial, health care, women, children, elderly as well as areas for increased protection of people with disabilities and other areas.

Representatives of non-governmental organizations voiced a number of issues, as well as presented proposals, some of which will be included in the Fourth Report of the Republic of Armenia.
