Foreign Minister's meeting with President of Artsakh Bako Sahakyan

On July 4, Foreign Minister of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan's working visit to Artsakh commenced from a meeting with Bako Sahakyan, President of Artsakh.

Welcoming the  Foreign Minister of Armenia, the President of Artsakh highlighted the importance of holding such regular meetings that gives an opportunity to summarize the joint work undertaken and to outline further steps. "I would also like to inform you about my meeting with the Co-Chairs, and as always, I want you to be aware of Artsakh's heartbeat, not only in political, but also in economic and public life," the President of Artsakh said.

Expressing gratitude for the reception Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan noted: "Indeed, this regular work and regular dialogue are of utmost importance because this way we are able to compare and clearly feel each other's approaches within the common positions. This is a very important process for me because it directly influences the negotiation process. This time our agenda is very interesting and intense. I will inform you about the recent developments on the negotiation process and those considerations that relate to our core issues, future plans and projects that we have ahead."

Minister Mnatsakanyan and Bako Sahakyan discussed a wide range of issues related to cooperation between Armenia and Artsakh in foreign policy field.

Touching upon the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, both sides underscored the need of creating an environment conducive to peace and strengthening the ceasefire regime and reducing risks. From the perspective of ensuring the effectiveness of the peace process, the President of Artsakh and the Foreign Minister of Armenia emphasized the importance of Artsakh’s decisive voice and engagement as the main subject of the conflict in negotiation process.

The Foreign Minister of Armenia briefed his interlocutor on the meeting with the Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan held in Washington DC under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairs.

The interlocutors touched upon a number of urgent regional and international issues.


At the end of the meeting, the Foreign Minister had a briefing with representatives of Artsakh’s media.
