Political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Armenia and Germany

On June 24-25, political consultations between the Foreign Ministries of Armenia and Germany were held in Berlin. The Armenian delegation was headed by Avet Adonts, the Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia, and the German delegation was led by Michael Siebert, the Deputy Director-General for Political Affairs, Director for Eastern Europe, Russia, Southern Caucasus and Central Asia of the MFA of Germany.

During the consultations the sides discussed a wide range of issues on the Armenian-German bilateral political agenda, exchanged views on prospects of further deepening the cooperation in trade, economic, culture, education and other spheres.

At the meeting, both sides commended the recent intensification of the high-level political dialogue between Armenia and Germany.

While touching upon the current stage and development perspectives of the Armenia-EU partnership, the Armenian side presented the process of harmonization of the roadmap on the implementation of the Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and highlighted the importance of ratification of the CEPA by Germany.

In the result of the consultations the sides exchanged thoughts on the launch of the EU visa liberalization dialogue, as well as the support of the EU member states in this process.

The interlocutors touched upon the urgent issues of a number of regional and international agenda. Issues related to the activities of the Armenian-German intergovernmental commission in the coming year were also discussed.

On the same day, the delegation headed by the Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia held a meeting with Dr. Daniela De Ridder, Vice Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Foreign Relations of German Bundestag.

Deputy Foreign Minister Avet Adonts presented the path of transition to the parliamentary government in Armenia and the steps taken in that direction.

The interlocutors touched upon the importance of deepening the inter-parliamentary cooperation between Armenia and Germany, which will give impetus to the further development of relations in bilateral and multilateral dimensions.

On June 25 the delegation headed by Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia was hosted by Matthias Lüttenberg, the Head of the Department for Central, Eastern, Southern Europe, Southern Caucasus and Central Asia Affairs of the German Chancellor's Office.

During the meeting the interlocutors discussed issues concerning further deepening of the Armenian-German cooperation. The German side was also introduced to the ongoing reforms in the judiciary system in Armenia and the steps taken in that direction.
