Foreign Minister of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan participated in the events dedicated to "Kwibuka 25"

On April 7, Foreign Minister of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan participated in the official ceremony dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide. The event was attended by heads and high-level representatives of dozens of countries. The opening remarks were delivered by Paul Kagame, President of Rwanda, Moussa Faki Mahamat, Chairperson of the African Union Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, President of the European Commission, and Charles Michel, Prime Minister of Belgium.

On April 5, Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan attended the “Kwibuka  25” International Conference. Adama Dieng, Special Advisor of the UN Secretary General on the Prevention of Genocide, started his keynote remarks at the conference by welcoming Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Armenia and Foreign Minister of presiding country in La Francophonie, and highlighted the importance Global Forum “Against the Crime of Genocide” held in Yerevan in December last year, which had a special emphasis on the role of education.

Within the margins of the conference, Armenian Minister had a conversation with Adama Dieng, the UN Secretary-General's Special Adviser for the Prevention of Genocide.

The sides stressed the need to strengthen legal norms and mechanisms of genocide prevention within the UN framework. In this context, the role of education and remembrance in the prevention of genocides was particularly highlighted.
