The Foreign Minister of Armenia met with his Rwandan counterpart

On April 6, Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, who is in Kigali on an official visit, met with Richard Sezibera, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Rwanda.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation of Rwanda considered it symbolic that the official visit of the Foreign Minister of Armenia is taking place concurrently with the events dedicated to the commemoration 25th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide.

Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Richard Sezibera agreed that the dynamics of the recent contacts and meetings attest to the commitment of both sides to develop bilateral relations.

Ministers Mnatsakanyan and Sezibera highlighted the further practical steps aimed at promoting political dialogue, reciprocal visits, trade and economic ties, expanding legal framework and boosting people to people contacts.

Both counterparts underlined digital economy, as well as the spheres of information technology, creative education and innovation were indicated as priority areas of cooperation.

Within this context, the Foreign Minister of Armenia emphasized that engaging the leading Armenian companies of relevant spheres in the delegation allows to discuss on the ground the opportunities of localizing the solutions applied in the fields of digital agenda, high technologies and creative education in Armenia.

Both parties commended the cooperation on international platforms between Armenia and Rwanda towards the genocide prevention. The role of awareness raising, including through cooperation between museums, educational and scientific institutions has been particularly highlighted in the context of early prevention of genocides and crimes against humanity.

Ministers Mnatsakanyan and Sezibera in this regard emphasized the bilateral readiness to advance cooperation between the Armenian Genocide Museum-Institute and the Museum of the Rwandan Genocide.

Attaching special importance to creating solidarity among genocide survivors, Minister Mnatsakanyan highlighted the fight against the denialism of genocide as an effective mechanism to prevent new crimes against humanity. "We have passed through the horrors of genocide, we know the consequences of genocide. Our principled position is to once and forever enshrine the "never again" so that no people would endure what our nations have passed through.”

Expressing gratitude for being present at this important commemoration for the Rwandan people, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation Sezibera presented the Rwandan experience of the reconciliation process.
