Foreign MInister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan met with James Appathurai, the NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative

On March 11, Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan received James Appathurai, the NATO  Secretary General’s Special Representative for the South Caucasus and Central Asia.

Minister Mnatsakanyan welcomed the visit of the NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative within the margins of the NATO Week in Armenia.

The interlocutors reiterated the bilateral commitment to cooperate within the IPAP commending the partnership relations established with the NATO in various spheres. In that context, the importance of maintaining the dynamics of meetings and mutual visits aimed at constituency of joint efforts was highlighted.

In the course of the meeting the sides touched upon the process of continuing political dialogue, the reforms in defense and security spheres, the cooperation in emergency situations, science and a number of another areas of common interest between Armenia and the NATO within the framework of the IPAP.

The sides appreciated the approval by the Government of Armenia of the 2019-2021 National Action Plan for implementing the provisions of the UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on “Women, Peace and Security".

The NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative welcomed Armenia’s active participation and contribution in international peacebuilding, noting that such actions contribute to enhancing Armenia's image as an important participant in preserving international security.

The Foreign Minister of Armenia and the NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative exchanged views on a number regional and international issues.

At the request of James Appathurai, Minister Mnatsakanyan presented Armenia’s foreign policy priorities, the approaches and the principled position of Armenia on the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
