Meeting between the Foreign Minister of Armenia and the European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy

On January 29, Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan received Johannes Hahn, the European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy. The sides commended the significant progress achieved in the EU-Armenia relations over the last months, in this respect, particularly highlighting regular bilateral high-level visits and meetings.

The interlocutors had a detailed discussion on the Armenia-EU multifaceted agenda underscoring the importance of Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement as a substantial legal basis of bilateral relations. Within this context, Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan emphasized that CEPA is a useful tool for promoting the development agenda of the Government of Armenia, particularly in strengthening democratic institutions of the country. The Foreign Minister of Armenia and the EU Commissioner highlighted the comprehensive discussions on the Roadmap for the CEPA implementation held during the first session of the Armenia-EU Partnership Committee.

The Foreign Minister of Armenia and the EU Commissioner agreed that the 10th anniversary of Eastern Partnership is a good milestone to summarize the achievements of the initiative and outline further actions.

In the course of the meeting, the sides exchanged views on a number of pressing issues of regional and international agenda, specifically touched upon the situation in Syria and recent developments around Iran.

Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan briefed the EU Commissioner Hahn on the recent developments around Nagorno-Karabakh peace process, outlined Armenia's approaches to and the principled position on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

At the end of the meeting Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Johannes Hahn held a joint press conference.
