Zohrab Mnatsakanyan received members of the European Parliament’s observation mission

On December 8th, acting Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan received the electoral observation mission of the European Parliament for the upcoming snap parliamentary elections. The delegation was headed by European Parliament Vice President Heidi Hautala.

The acting Foreign Minister presented the latest domestic political developments in Armenia, noting that the primary directions of the government’s broad popular mandate are the strengthening of justice and the rule of law and guaranteeing equal socioeconomic opportunities. Mnatsakanyan added that the holding of elections in line with international standards that reflect the will of the people is an important milestone.

At the request of the guests, acting Foreign Minister Mnatsakanyan presented the main priorities and directions of the foreign policy agenda of the Armenian government, which are based on the principle of continuation aimed at the protection of Armenia’s national interests.

The acting Foreign Minister and the members of the European Parliament’s observation mission exchanged views on issues on the agenda of Armenia-EU relations. The sides stressed the importance of the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement in the context of developing bilateral and multilateral cooperation in various spheres.

During the meetings, the participants touched upon a range of pressing issues on the regional and international agendas.

Zohrab Mnatsakanyan briefed his interlocutors on Armenia’s approaches to and positions on the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, reiterating the Armenian side’s commitment to a strictly peaceful resolution within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship.
