Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Spain and Armenia

On December 6th, on the sidelines of the 25th OSCE Ministerial Council in Milan, acting Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan met with Spanish Foreign Minister Josep Borrell Fontelles.

During the meeting reference was made to a range of issues on the bilateral agenda and both sides placed importance on the organization of regular consultations and high-level visits. The Foreign Ministers expressed readiness to exert joint efforts aimed at promoting Armenian-Spanish cooperation, highlighting trade, energy, and infrastructure as key directions. In terms of enriching the bilateral agenda, both sides emphasized the importance of creative education and high technology and the initiation of experience-sharing programs in those spheres.

The interlocutors also touched upon the Armenia-EU relations. The acting Foreign Minister stressed the importance of the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement for deepening bilateral and multilateral relations with the EU member states. Mnatsakanyan noted that CEPA is an important tool for promoting the ongoing reform process in Armenia.

The acting Foreign Minister made reference to the latest domestic political developments in Armenia, stressing the Armenian government’s commitment to guarantee an electoral process in line with international standards.

Zohrab Mnatsakanyan also briefed Josep Borrell Fontelles on Armenia’s approaches to and positions on the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, noting that the status and security of Artsakh are the top priorities for Armenia.
