Meeting of acting Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan with the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia

On December 6th, within the framework of his working visit to Milan, acting Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan met with EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia Toivo Klaar.

The sides emphasized the importance of such meetings for discussing regional issues and issues within the mandate of the EU Special Representative.

Referring to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan noted that the status and security of Artsakh are priorities for Armenia, by emphasizing the importance of Artsakh’s decisive role.

While discussing the creation of an atmosphere conducive to peace, the acting Foreign Minister emphasized the importance of measures aimed at the establishment of mutual trust and the reduction of bellicose rhetoric. Zohrab Mnatsakanyan noted that the Armenian side calls on its international partners to abstain from any actions that might contribute to a regional arms race and spread instability.

The acting Foreign Minister added that attempts to shift the discussions on the Nagorno-Karabakh peace process into other formats outside the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship, which is the only internationally-mandated format, and to seek wordings differ from the ones agreed within the abovementioned format do not contribute to the efforts made towards the peaceful resolution of the issue.
