Meeting of acting Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan with Wess Mitchell, the United States Assistant Secretary of State

On December 6, on the sidelines of the 25th OSCE Ministerial Council in Milan, Acting Foreign Minister of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan met with Wess Mitchell, the US Assistant Secretary of State.

The sides touched upon a range of issues on the bilateral agenda, expressing readiness to take practical measures to further intensify the political dialogue. The interlocutors exchanged views on the further deepening of the trade and economic cooperation, in this regard emphasizing the importance of the activities of the Armenia-US Intergovernmental Commission.

Zohrab Mnatsakanyan touched upon the latest domestic political developments in Armenia, presenting the Government’s reform agenda based on its broad popular mandate, and in the context of upcoming snap parliamentary elections reiterated the Government’s commitment to guarantee a free and fair electoral process reflective of the will of the people. Acting Foreign Minister, among the priorities of the Government of Armenia, Acting Minister Mnatsakanyan outlined the promotion of the country’s development agenda, which is based on, among others, the spheres of high technology, creative education, and innovation. Mnatsakanyan stressed the importance of enhancing the partnership and cooperation with the United States in this context.

Referring to the approaches of the Armenian side to the peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan reiterated Armenia’s commitment to a strictly peaceful settlement within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship, emphasizing the importance of joint efforts the United States along with the other two Co-Chairs - Russia and France - aimed at a peaceful resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.

The interlocutors also exchanged views on a range of issues of mutual concern on the regional and international agendas.
