Meeting of the Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Malta

On December 6th, Acting Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan met with Carmelo Abela, the Foreign Minister of Malta within the framework of the 25th OSCE Ministerial Council.

The Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Malta exchanged views on the prospects for the expansion of the bilateral agenda, noting the importance of enhancing the shared legal framework, the organization of consultations between the two foreign ministries and the stimulation of interparliamentary ties.

Zohrab Mnatsakanyan and Carmelo Abela stressed the importance of mutually beneficial cooperation within regional and international organizations, highlighting La Francophonie as an especially effective platform. Mnatsakanyan presented the priorities of Armenia’s presidency over the organization.

The interlocutors also made reference to the Armenia-EU partnership. Zohrab Mnatsakanyan noted that the Armenia-EU Comprehensive and Enhanced Partnership Agreement is an important tool of strengthening cooperation with the EU and EU member states based on shared values, as well as for promoting the ongoing reforms in Armenia.

Acting Foreign Minister Mnatsakanyan briefed Carmelo Abela on Armenia’s views on and approaches to the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, highlighting the fact that people are the primary beneficiaries of a peaceful solution and that their security is at the basis of the issue.
