Meeting on Armenia - Council of Europe Action Plan in Strasbourg

On November 20, in Strasbourg, within the framework of discussion on the CoE Action Plan for Armenia, the Acting Foreign Minister met with the ambassadors of donor countries, as well as Gabriella Battaini-Dragoni, the Deputy Secretary General of the Council of Europe and Verena Taylor, Council of Europe Director of the Office of the Directorate General of Programmes.

During the meeting the sides discussed programmes implemented within the framework of the Armenia-Council of Europe Action Plan for 2015-2018, the results achieved, as well as the issues related to the preparatory work for 2019-2022 Action Plan.

The head of Foreign Ministry underscored with satisfaction that the Council of Europe is one of the important partners of Armenia on the path of strengthening democracy and consolidation of civil society institutes, and the Government is committed to expanding and strengthening this collaboration. In this regard, Acting Minister highly appreciated the input of the CoE expertise and professional capacities in our country's democratic processes.

He underlined the necessity of targeted involvement of the Council of Europe Action Plan in the areas that are most important for Armenia.

Zohrab Mnatsakanyan briefed his interlocutors on the latest internal political developments in Armenia, stressing the Government's commitment to implementing a comprehensive reform agenda based on the broad mandate given by the people and aimed at strengthening the rule of law and justice in the country, fighting corruption, providing equal opportunities in the social and economic spheres.

Acting Minister exchanged views on the current situation in the area of democracy and human rights protection in Europe and a number of relevant issues of international importance.
