20 November, 2018

On November 20, during his working visit to Strasbourg, Acting Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan had a meeting with Liliane Maury-Pasquier, the President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE).

Congratulating Liliane Maury-Pasquier on being elected as PACE President, Zohrab Mnatsakanyan wished her success in this important position. Touching upon the problems the Parliamentary Assembly faces, the Acting Foreign Minister expressed his support for the efforts aimed at addressing them. Zohrab Mnatsakanyan noted that each CoE Member State should contribute to improving the efficiency and rating of the Organisation which is consolidated around common European values.

In the context of recent internal political developments in Armenia, Acting Minister Mnatsakanyan underscored the Government's commitment to pursuing the reform process based on the mandate given by the people, the next step of which will be the conducting of fair and transparent elections expressing the will of people.

The Acting Foreign Minister briefed the PACE President on the approaches of Armenia towards the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. Zohrab Mnatsakanyan stressed in this regard that attempts to shift the discussions on the conflict to other platforms outside the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship, which is the only international mandated format, do not contribute to the settlement, hindering the establishment of stability and peace in the region.
