13 September, 2018

On September 13, the Foreign Minister of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, who is in Geneva on a working visit, met with representatives of the Armenian community of Switzerland.

In his welcoming speech, Minister Mnatsakanyan in particular noted that in recent years Armenia has developed dynamic and interesting relations with Switzerland. The Minister expressed gratitude to those present for persistently and consistently defending their identity, maintaining the connection with homeland and creating a systemic and sustained community life. "Each of you carried out this work in order to make the values of our people, our history, our identity strong," added the Minister.

The Minister noted that by being a member of the new government, he undertook the commitment and readiness to share the political responsibility for today's Armenia. "The fact that today's government enjoys a strong mandate given by the people is inspiring but also binding. The priorities of our Government include ensuring justice, rule of law, the fight against corruption, ensuring equal opportunities in social and economic life, strengthening human rights and democratic institutions. The government also mobilizes forces to implement a clear and predictable development plan."

The Minister reiterated: "Armenia is the geographical part of homeland, where we regained our sovereignty, our statehood, our place in the international community, where we, as a state, can protect and develop our identity and our values." Minister assured that for preserving all this, we have many institutions - religion, faith, language, culture, philosophy and thought, which we have managed to preserve throughout centuries and recognize ourselves as Armenians.

"I have had an honour to work and live in different parts of the world, and I have always been dealing with the same attitude that the Armenians, wherever they might be, are never indifferent to the destiny of Armenia. There might be various critical, idealistic approaches, some might argue or disagree. This shows a clear phenomenon: no one is indifferent to what is called the Armenian, Armenian nation and Armenian statehood."

"There is always a work to be done together, there are always projects to do together," concluded his remarks Minister Mnatsakanyan.
