Foreign Minister Zohrab Mnatsakanyan met with Norbert Lammert, Chairman of Konrad Adenauer Foundation

On June 29, Foreign Minister of Armenia Zohrab Mnatsakanyan, while being on an official visit to Berlin, visited the Konrad Adenauer Foundation headquarters where he met with the Foundation Chairman Dr. Norbert Lammert.

Welcoming the Armenian Foreign Minister, the Chairman of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation highlighted the importance of the visit to Berlin of the Foreign Minister of a friendly country and his meeting with the representatives of the Foundation, which in Dr. Lammert’s opinion provides an opportunity to get a firsthand information about the recent developments in Armenia.

During the meeting issues related to Armenian-German friendly relations were discussed, the sides exchanged views on further development of bilateral relations.

Minister Mnatsakanyan presented to his vis-à-vis the course of velvet revolution in Armenia and its background. Foreign Minister underlined that all the changes took place within the framework of Constitution and laws. The head of Armenia’s Foreign Ministry reiterated the commitment of the new government to implement continuous reforms in the areas of strengthening democracy, protection of human rights, the rule of law, and the fight against corruption. In this regard the  Chairman of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation Lammert stressed, that stability that followed the events in Armenia makes them to advantageously stand out.

The Chairman of the Foundation expressed confidence that the process of reforms launched in Armenia will be of continuous nature, expressing willingness to assist through Foundation the initiatives in this direction.

At the request of the Chairman of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, the Foreign Minister of Armenia presented the foreign policy priorities of Armenia, the efforts undertaken within the framework of the OSCE Minsk Group Co-Chairmanship aimed at the settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, Armenia's position on regional issues and approaches to their solution.

The participants of the meeting touched upon the activities of the office of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Armenia, underscoring the importance of the initiatives implemented by the Foundation, particularly in terms of strengthening the civil society and democratic institutions.
