Armenia is going to participate in “Rio+20” Earth Summit on the sustainable development and environment protection

On August 24, the first session of the national commission coordinating the preparatory works of the participation of the Republic of Armenia in the “Rio+20” Earth Summit on the sustainable development and environment protection, to be held in Rio de Janeiro in 2012, took place at the MFA. The session was conducted by the co-chairmen RA Ministers of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian and Nature Protection Aram Harutyunyan. The Commission includes representatives of the stakeholders, as well as non-governmental organizations.

The Ministers of Foreign Affairs Edward Nalbandian and Nature Protection Aram Harutyunyan had speeches during the session. They touched upon the developments held in the frames of the “Rio+20” Earth Summit and, in that context, the problems Armenia faces, preparatory works of the RA participation in the upcoming Summit and the steps to be undertaken in that direction.

The draft of the national program on the activities of the Armenian participation in the Rio de Janeiro Summit and the proposal on the creation of preparatory thematic working groups were presented during the meeting.
