Days of Francophone started in Armenia
17 March, 2011On March 17, the events dedicated to the Francophone Days in Armenia started by the reception held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia.
The members of the Armenian Government, National Assembly’s deputies, Mayor of Yerevan, governors of Armenia, heads of two dozen municipalities, Ambassadors accredited in Yerevan, as well as representatives of NGOs attended the reception.
In his welcome speech, the Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian said that it is already the third year that the days of Francophone are celebrated in Armenia in a great way that are becoming more comprehensive each year, including more participants.
"The events devoted to the Francophone will take place more than a month in the cultural and educational centers of Armenia. It reaches to an unprecedented number and volume of events, especially in geographical term, almost all regions of Armenia are involved in this program.
If last year the OIF Secretary General Abdou Diufe specially noted that Armenia has the first place among the member countries by the number of events dedicated to the Days of Francophone, this year their number has tripled including 150 events," said the Foreign Minister of Armenia.
In the frames of the Francophone Days in Armenia, on March 18, a concert by the famous singer Lara Fabian will take place in Yerevan Sports Complex.
Regarding to the Francophone Days, on March 17 to April 21 in Yerevan and the regions of Armenia will be organized around one hundred and fifty cultural, artistic and educational events, which will be attended by the art activists from Armenia and a number of Francophone countries.
This program which is held under the auspices of the RA MFA, was implemented by the participation and involvement of the RA Ministries of Territorial Administration, Education and Science and Culture, Yerevan City Hall, the Embassies of France, Canada, Lebanon, Poland, Romania and the Swiss Confederation in Armenia, a number of Armenian universities and NGOs.
Currently the International Francophone Organization unites 56 states and member governments, 14 observer countries, whose population of more than 800 million people.
