On May 21, Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian met with Jorge Taiana, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship of the Argentine Republic who arrived in Armenia on a working visit.

Minister Nalbandian mentioned with satisfaction that the Armenian-Argentine relations are entering in a new stage and the opening of the Embassy of the Argentine Republic in Armenia with participation of Minister Jorge Taiana is the evidence of that. Minister Nalbandian congratulated his Argentine counterpart on the 200th anniversary of independence of Argentina, as well as with the opening of the embassy in Yerevan and mentioned that Armenian first embassy in the Latin America was also opened in Argentina.

“Despite geographical distance, our peoples have special warmth and sympathy towards each other, which obliges us to undertake practical steps for futher strengthening and expansion of relations between Armenia and Argentina, as well as deepening cooperation in international arena,” Edward Nalbnadian said.

The Armenian Foreign Minister highly appreciated the role of the Armenia community in Argentina in the establishment of bilateral relations. Edward Nalbandian expressed confidence that the first visit of Jorge Taiana to Armenia would also give a new stimulus to the deepening of collaboration and expansion of relationship between the Foreign Ministries of the two friendly countries.

In his turn, Minister Taiana mentioned that Argentina attaches great importance to the development of comprehensive cooperation with friendly Armenia and the fact that the first embassy of his country in this region is established in Yerevan is the prove of that.

Edward Nalbandian and Jorge Taiana discussed the issues included in the bilateral agenda and mentioned that the existing legal field creates a solid basis for expanding of cooperation in different areas.

In the course of the meeting, the two exchanged views on the promotion of partnership in the areas of high technologies, ways of intensification of cultural cooperation, steps being undertaken for the elimination of the consequences of the global economic crisis.
The Ministers stressed that the cooperation between Armenia and Argentina within international organizations is also quite effective and is based on the mutual support.

The two also touched upon the Latin American issues, as well as Armenia’s relations with its neighbours.

The meeting was followed by the joint press conference of Edward Nalbandian and Jorge Taiana.

Jorge Taiana also delivered a lecture on the Argentina’s foreign policy at the MFA Diplomatic Academy.

The Foreign Minister of Argentina also visited Tsitsernakaberd, where he laid a wreath at the Monument of the Armenian Genocide victims.
