Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Arman Kirakossian on a question of "News.am" News Agency
24 March, 2010Question: According to some media, former Foreign Minister of Turkey Ali Babacan has said that during the negotiations on the normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations with his participation an agreement was reached to hold discussions on the Armenian Genocide. What can you say about the accuracy of those statements?
Answer: I wouldn't like to believe that the former Foreign Minister of Turkey could say that. However, if it is true, then it just causes confusion as I have been present at the meetings on the results of which the process of normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations started and
continued, and there was no arrangement to held discussions on the fact of the Genocide.
Both the President of the Republic and the Foreign Minister have numerously stated that Armenia has never questioned and will never question either the fact of the Genocide or the importance of its international recognition. Foreign Minister of Armenia declared about it
even in Istanbul in November 2008 a few minutes before the meeting with the then Turkish Foreign Minister Babacan. Today, any manipulation of that issue is unacceptable and irrelevant.
