Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian meets with ForeignMinister of Lithuania Vigaudas Ushackas
20 November, 2009On November 20, Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian met with Foreign Minister of Lithuania Vigaudas Ushackas who is in Yerevan on a return official visit.
Armenian Foreign Minister has visited to Vilnius in November 2008. The last meeting of Armenian and Lithuanian Foreign Ministers has been held in this may in the framework of the session of Council of Europe’s Committee of Ministers in Madrid.
In his welcoming remarks, Minister Nalbandian noted that Armenia and Lithuania had established friendly relations, high-level political dialogue, effective cooperation in the international organizations, in the framework of the European neighbourhood policy and EU Eastern Partnership program, and a broad legal field has been formed. Edward Nalbandian expressed satisfaction on opening of Lithuanian embassy in Yerevan last year.
Minister Ushackas in his turn assessed positively warm and friendly relations between Lithuania and Armenia stressing that the two countries have common history based on partnership and mutual confidence. Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania underlined the possibilities of cooperation in different areas and the necessity of the deepening mutually beneficial relations.
The two comprehensively touched upon the steps taken in the direction of the development of political, economical, cultural, educational and scientific cooperation between Armenia and Lithuania.
Foreign Ministers of Armenia and Lithuania exchanged views on number of regional and international issues. In the context of Lithuanian presidency in OSCE in 2011, the two touched upon OSCE agenda items.
Ministers Nalbandian and Ushackas discussed the resolution process of the Artsakh (Nagorno-Karabakh) issue.
Vigaudas Ushackas welcomed and expressed support of Lithuania to the steps taken for the normalisation of Armenian-Turkish relations.
The meeting between Foreign Ministers was followed by the joint press conference.
