Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian meets Robert Simmons, NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative

On November 5, Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian received Ambassador Robert Simmons, NATO Secretary General’s Special Representative for the Caucasus and Central Asia.


Welcoming the guest, Minister Nalbandian mentioned that Armenia attaches importance to the mutually beneficial cooperation with NATO and is intended to strengthen it by paying special attention to the implementation of Armenia-NATO Individual Partnership Action Plan.

Edward Nalbandian also stressed that Armenia will continue the cooperation within the framework of NATO Euro Atlantic Cooperation Council, as well as in the direction of fight against international terrorism, elimination of the results of natural disasters and other areas.

In his turn Robert Simmons attached importance to the development of cooperation with Armenia and mentioned that the North-Atlantic Treaty Organization highly appreciates the partnership with Armenia and expressed hope that Individual Partnership Action Plan 2009-2010 will also be successfully implemented. NATO representative attached importance to Armenia’s contribution in international peacekeeping operations.
Within the context of discussions on regional issues Secretary General’s Special Representative expressed satisfaction with the progress registered in the process of normalization of Armenian-Turkish relations and stressed that NATO welcomes the steps aimed at the establishment of relations between Armenia and Turkey.
