In Cairo Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian has started his visit to the Middle East
24 February, 2009On February 23, Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian arrived in Egypt with an official visit by the invitation of Foreign Minister of Egypt Ahmed Abou Elgheit.
On the same day, Edward Nalbandian had a meeting with Prime Minister of Egypt Ahmed Nazif.
Welcoming the Armenian Foreign Minister, Egyptian Prime Minister said that the Egyptian nation and personally he has a special sympathy with Armenia and the Armenian nation. Ahmed Nazif stressed that the active role and participation of the Egyptian Armenian community in different areas of the country’s life is a vivid evidence of Armenian-Egyptian friendship. According to Ahmed Nazif friendly relations established between the two nations create a solid basis for further development of cooperation between Armenia and Egypt.
Armenian Foreign Minister thanked for the reception and said that Armenian-Egyptian relations have a centuries-old history and our nations are tied with time-proved traditional friendship and sympathy. Minister Nalbandian emphasized that it creates a solid basis for deepening of effective cooperation between the two states. Armenia is interested in rapprochement and broadening of bilateral partnership with Egypt. Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian mentioned that high level of political dialogue that exists between the two countries should be enhanced by bilateral economic projects and efficient use of opportunities for the development of trade-economic relations.
In the course of the meeting between Edward Nalbandian and his Egyptian counterpart Abou Elgheit wide range of issues concerning development of bilateral partnership in different areas, as well as cooperation within the framework of international organizations were discussed.
Edward Nalbandian emphasized that Armenia intends to continue the steps aimed at the deepening of comprehensive relationship with its main partner in the region – Arab Republic of Egypt.
Foreign Minister of Armenia said that Armenia geopolitically being close to the Middle East region and thus is greatly interested in establishment of peace and stability there. In that context Edward Nalbandian highly appreciated the role of Egypt in peaceful settlement of the Middle Eastern problems.
Ministers Nalbandian and Elgheit exchanged views on the issues concerning the strengthening of security in the South Caucasus and the Middle East.
Foreign Minister of Armenia and Egypt emphasized with satisfaction the active cooperation and the effectiveness of regular consultations between the Ministries they lead.
Edward Nalbandian invited Ahmed Abou Elghait to visit Armenia.
Armenian and Egyptian Foreign Ministers signed Agreement on mutual abolishing of visa requirement for holders of diplomatic, service or special passports.
After the meeting Armenian Foreign Minister had a briefing with the Egyptian journalists.
Egyptian Foreign Minister hosted an official dinner in honour of his Armenian counterpart.
On February 23 in the evening, Edward Nalbandian had a lively meeting with the representative of Armenian Community of Egypt.
Within the framework of his visit Edward Nalbandian gave a broad interview to one of the most influential newspapers in the Arab world – Cairo based Al Ahram.
On February 24, Edward Nalbandian left for Jordan.
