Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian meets Foreign Minister of Georgia Grigol Vashadze
20 February, 2009On February 20, Foreign Minister of Armenia Edward Nalbandian received the delegation headed by Georgia Foreign Minister Grigol Vashadze who paid a two-day official visit to Armenia.
Welcoming Grigol Vashadze Edward Nalbandian praised Armenian-Georgian intensive and regular political dialogue and mentioned that it creates a solid basis for further development of mutually beneficial relations.
Foreign Minister of Armenia and Georgia had a detailed discussion on further development of bilateral political, economic and cultural cooperation.
The two discussed the implementation process of agreements reached during Armenian President’s visit to Georgia in 2008 and gave instructions to the heads of the corresponding departments to speed up the realization of the agreements.Ministers attached importance to existing effective cooperation between the Foreign Ministries of the two countries and agreed to organize regular consultations between the Ministries.
Armenian and Georgian Foreign Ministers discussed issues concerning enlargement of legal field and cooperation in the area of energy.
In the course of the meeting, they touched upon the ways of promoting cooperation in the South Caucasus region. In that context Edward Nalbandian stressed that the participation of all regional countries is the main key to ensure the efficiency of any project.
Edward Nalbandian and Grigol Vashadze discussed issues concerning cooperation between Armenia and Georgia within international organizations and emphasized that there are open opportunities for deepening of bilateral partnership in both bilateral and international formats.
Foreign Ministers touched upon the EU “Eastern Partnership” initiative and discussed the ways of possible cooperation within the framework of the proposal.
The two exchanged views on issues on the activity of the Organization of the Black Sea economic cooperation.
By the initiative of the Armenian side, the Ministers also discussed the issues of Georgian Armenian Diaspra’s concern.
