On March 31, 2008, Minister Oskanian received the Council of Europe Committee of Ministers Monitoring Group for Azerbaijan and Armenia (the Ago Group). The delegation, on a four-day working visit to Yerevan, is headed by the Council’s Ambassador to Sweden, Mr. Per Sjogren.

Underscoring the importance of the regularity of the Group’s visits to the region and its contacts with Armenia’s authorities, Minister Oskanian said Armenia appreciates the cooperation between Armenia and the Ago Group, calling it efficient and beneficial.

The interlocutors discussed the domestic post-electoral situation in Armenia, and the measures taken by the authorities aimed at restoring calm. They attached great importance to undertaking a fair and transparent investigation of the incidents, and establishing a dialogue among political forces.

During the meeting, the Minister and the delegation members touched upon the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement process, emphasizing the unequivocal need to continue it.

A joint press conference by Minister Oskanian and Ambassador Sjogren followed the meeting.
