On January 9, 2008, Armenia’s Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian received a delegation headed by Ambassador Geert-Hinric Ahrens, Head of the OSCE/ODIHR observation mission in Yerevan to observe the forthcoming presidential elections which will take place on February 19.

The Minister stressed the importance of the observation mission and said that the forthcoming presidential elections will confirm Armenia’s democratic credentials.

Ambassador Ahrens expressed his satisfaction with the invitation and stated that the observers will provide transparency in their work. He said that 28 long-term and 250 short-term OSCE/ODIHR observers will arrive in Armenia.

Minister Oskanian wished them success in their mission and confirmed the MFA’s readiness to cooperate.
