On 13 April, Foreign Minister Oskanian received the UN Special Representative of the Secretary-General on the Human Rights of Internally Displaced Persons Walter Kälin, who was in Armenia on a working visit.

Mr. Kälin visited Armenia in order to learn about the problems of internally displaced persons (IDPs) as well as the prospects of improving IDPs’ living conditions with the assistance of the international community.

The Minister and the UN official discussed problems facing refugees and internally displaced persons in both Armenia and Azerbaijan as a consequence of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict. They also spoke about the conflict resolution process, and measures, which need to be taken to facilitate the secure and dignified return of those who wish to do so.

Mr. Kälin also briefed his colleague on his last visit to Azerbaijan.
