Response by the Spokesperson of the Foreign Ministry of Armenia to the question on the meeting of the representative of a non-governmental organization with ambassadors in Azerbaijan

07 February, 2020

Question: The expert community of Armenia actively debates the growing role of the Azerbaijani community of Nagorno-Karabakh in the peace process and the meeting of the ambassadors of the Co-Chair countries with the head of the community Tural Ganjaliyev attests to it. Is there such development in reality?

Answer: The activities of the Azerbaijani government-organized non-governmental organization (GONGO), whatever imaginary name they call it, are not a factor in the peace process and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Armenia does not comment on their contacts with the members of the diplomatic corps accredited to their country.

I shall repeat that Armenia’s position on the sides of the conflict is clear. Since 1992, the authorities of Artsakh have participated in the Peace Process as elected representatives of Nagorno-Karabakh. The authorities of Nagorno-Karabakh along with the Republic of Armenia and Azerbaijan signed the Bishkek Protocol, which calls for a ceasefire and the final document of 1994 OSCE Budapest Summit, which enshrines the trilateral format of negotiations, derived from the 1994 trilateral ceasefire agreement between Nagorno-Karabakh, Armenia and Azerbaijan.
