Message of Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian on the International Francophonie Day

20 March, 2015

This year a two-month Francophonie season in Armenia will be held in the context of the commemoration of Centennial of the Armenian Genocide.

It is noteworthy that during his visit in April, 2010, to Armenia Secretary General of the International Organization of La Francophonie Abdou Diouf visited the Armenian Genocide Memorial Complex and expressed Francophone states’ solidarity and unconditional commitment to the universal human rights values.

Program of events of the two-month Francophonie season is not of less extent compared to past traditions. For two consecutive month around 550 cultural, artistic, educational and university events are scheduled, dedicated to the International Francophonie Day and will symbolize peace, justice, tolerance and solidarity values of the Organization. Yet again the youth, as well as structures of Armenia that cooperate with La Francophonie and civil society will bring their considerable participation in the realization of the program of Francophonie season.

The two-months long Francophonie season is an example of active engagement. Special importance is attached to that season this year, due to the 31st Ministerial Conference of Francophonie, scheduled at the end of October, in Yerevan.

This regular meeting of the governing body of La Francophonie – with participation of newly elected Secretary General Michaëlle Jean, as well as Ministers of member-states of La Francophonie – is a unique event for our state. This is an opportunity to explore the francophone culture and maintain the solemn atmosphere of the two-month season throughout the year, contributing to 2015 genuinely becoming remarkable for La Francophonie in Armenia.
