On September 23, in New York, on the margins of the 81st session of the UN General Assembly, Davit Karapetyan, Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade of the Republic of Armenia, participated in the Open Government Partnership Leaders’ roundtable on “Transparency, Resilience and Prosperity.”

During the panel discussion entitled “Prosperous and Competitive Economies”, the Secretary General addressed the challenges Armenia has faced in recent years and the importance of ensuring sustainable economic growth amid these challenges, emphasizing the role of strong democratic foundations, the rule of law and effective institutions. 

Davit Karapetyan presented the reforms implemented in Armenia in the areas of digitalization, expanding public and civic participation, and combating corruption. 

Touching upon Armenia’s foreign policy priorities, including those in the economic sphere, the Secretary General emphasized the importance of diversifying trade ties, attracting investment and expanding mutually beneficial economic cooperation. 

Davit Karapetyan also addressed the expansion of the mandate of Armenia’s foreign ministry to include international trade. It was emphasized that, in the conditions of established peace, foreign policy should also contribute to creating economic opportunities, expanding international trade ties and improving the well-being of citizens. 

The Secretary General also highlighted the potential for cooperation within the framework of the Open Government Partnership, particularly in developing capacities to promote international trade, facilitate the access of local businesses to international markets, and attract foreign investment.
